Unlike dental crowns, which cover the entire tooth, dental veneers are thin sheaths of porcelain (or other composite material) that are applied to the front of teeth. Some describe veneers as fake fingernails for the teeth. Although this isn't the most technical way to describe veneers, it does give an accurate visual.
