Need for Endodontic Treatment

Root canal therapy, or endodontic treatment, is necessary when the tooth's root, or pulp, becomes inflamed or infected. This inflamed tooth pulp can cause pain and discomfort.

The pulp of the tooth can become infected due to:

:: Deep, or unchecked, decay in the tooth
:: Numerous dental procedures on the same tooth
:: A crack or chip in the tooth

To remove not only the pain, but also the infection, from the tooth, the infected pulp must be removed from the tooth's chamber, or root canal.

Root Canal Therapy Procedure

During a root canal therapy procedure, Dr. Mudassar will:

:: Create a small hole in the tooth to access the root canal.
:: Use small instruments to remove the infected pulp
:: Clean the tooth's chamber.
:: Fill the now-empty root canal with biocompatible materials.
:: Completely seal the tooth.

After creating a small opening, very small instruments are used to clean and shape the root canal spaces.	The cleaned spaces are filled with a biocompatible material and specialized cement to ensure complete sealing of the root canals.
